Salvia makes a bright spot in any garden. The rich reds or blues
stand out through the summer months. Plants are 10 to 26 inches tall.
There are also varieties that come in various colors including purple, orange, lavender, yellow and white. The flowers grow on vertical spikes rising above the dark green foilage.
Salvia usually blooms from early summer on to frost. Rich well drained
soil is preferred. The seeds are slow to germinate and not easy to find.
Most people buy seedlings each spring. The six packs are commomly available.
Full sun is the preferred spot for salvia, but light shade for
half the day can be tolerated. Plant salvia at the front or middle of the bed.
Salvia is a perennial in frost free climates.
