The annual DCD Dolpha-Thon is upon us again! For all you new families, let us explain: Several times during the year, we ask all families to participate in certain "fundraisers". These fundraiser events keep out team dues the lowest of any swim team that we know of. Check around, and you will see that most Pacific Swimming Team dues start at $50.00 per swimmer (some with additional joining fees as high as $400.00!), and range up to $100 or $150.00 in some places. But we do not believe in imposing such financial hardships on our families. Instead, we prefer fundraisers, and that's what the Dolpha-Thon is all about:
We ask the EVERY swimmer participate in this event. Go around to friends, family, business associates - whoever... and have them support you and the DCD by pledging an amount "per lap" that DCD swimmers can swim. The maximum number of laps is 200, so they can pretty much know what their maximum pledge will be. After you swim the event, you will collect and turn into the team that which you have raised.
We have a great prize for the swimmer that raises the most pledge money, and we do ask that each family do the following: 1) have EACH swimmer raise as much as they can (if a swimmer does NOT participate, a $25.00 charge will be applied to your monthly dues in May. 2) Each family must send one or more parent to count laps on the night that the swimmer does their swim. 3) The juniors will be swimming on Wednesday from 5:00pm-7:00pm; the Seniors will go at it on Thursday evening from 4:30-6:00pm. If there is a major conflict with either of those days, you can make arrangements with a coach to swim on the other day.
Immediately following the Senior swim on Thursday, we will have our annual DCD Awards Banquet at the Doelger Cafe (111 Lake Merced Blvd.), at 6:30 pm. PLEASE BE THERE PROMPTLY, and we need to see EVERY family in attendance. Each swimmer gets an award, we have a great pot luck dinner, and it will be an enjoyable and instructive night for all.
This year we are going to try a "new" idea to continue to provide needed funds for the team. We are sponsoring a Dance Party (for parents and adult friends) on Saturday, May 23rd. The cost is $10.00 per ticket, and the party will run from 8:00pm until 1:00am. Also, there will be snacks and drinks for sale at the dance (no alcohol of course); lots of great music and fun - so parents, let your friends know about this special event!
Please note that the pool will be CLOSED on Friday, April 10th (Good Friday)... and we have been informed that practices may start late on certain days of the Westmoor swim season this month (see your calendar for actual dates). You may drop swimmers off at the normal time, but realize they may get in the water late on those days.
We have 4 leftover sweatshirts which families ordered but did not pick up. You know who you are, so please get them from Perlita - if not, they will be donated or sold to others.
Check out our NEW Daly City Dolphin Website! There's still lots to be done, but you can pull the page up at: http://geocities.datacellar.net/ Pipeline/1612

Good job!! The DCD Swimmers at the So. San Francisco B-A+ Meet recorded 78.4% time improvement. That means that out of every 5 swims, 4 were life best times.
Everybody swam FAST! Topping the list was Justin Vergara, who went from AA to PRT in the 200 Breast and will join Nicky Leung, Kevin Dolar, and Chris Nguyen in the Far Western Swimming Championshps at Walnut Creek on April 3-5.
Joining them will be Benny Yau for the 10/under 200 Free and 200 Medly relay at Westerns, and Roberto Calvo Y Perez, Stanley Chen, Jeffrey Lu, and Marc Soriano will join Justin for the 13- 14 Boys 200 Fre and Medley Relays.
Other break-through swims came from Alex Banares, Kevin Dolar, Jeff Lu, Chris Nguyen, and Marc and Roschelle Soriano. New "A" times were posted by Stanley Chen (his first ever), Justine DeCastro, Liana Leung, Cara Savelli, Ellen Savelli, Derrick Soriano, Rochelle Soriano, Heidi Tieu (her 1st ever), Benny Yau, and Eddy Yau (his 1st ever).
Also posting life best times were: Andrew Alorro, Kevin and Marc Apolinario, Alyssa Bautista, Maria Calvo Y Perez, Ruth Dimagmaliw, Ashley Anne Feria, Jason Galvez, Janice and Terrence Leung, Mateus Porter (in his 1st meet), and Michael Rapadas.
The Dolpha-Thon is our next big event on April 8th for the Juniors, and April 9th for Seniors. Swimmers get your sponsors to sign up and start preparing mentally and physically for a real challenge of 200 laps.
Parents, we need your help to count laps on Wednesday and Thursday at the pool. The phone committee will contact you. Our Annual Awards Banquet will be Thursday at 6:30 pm, immediately following the Senior's Dolpha-Thon swim... ALL swimmers will receive an award, so let's have 100% turnout at the banquet.
Long Course season starts after the Dolpha-Thon and the first 50 meter races will be April 26-27 at Foothill College. There are meet sheets at the pool. Times are different for long course so talk to the coaches before you enter your times.
Some new parents have asked for a clinic about preparing for meets and other questions. At the Awards Banquet, we will announce a time for us to meet and discuss the needs of the swimmers, parents, and swimming at meets, motivation, nutrition, and answering of any other questions you might have.
