VOLUME 5, NO. 11
Daly City Park and Recreation Department - NOVEMBER 1998
This issue of the Dolphin Report will be dedicated to the work before us: the upcoming D.C.D. Annual Thanksgiving Invitational Meet which is taking place this month. PARENTS, MAKE SURE TO RESERVE SATURDAY & SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 21-22. We must have 100% participation to make this meet is a success! The DCD Meet is one of the primary forms of raising funds for the team - and additionally, it is a time when parents and swimmers come together as "a team". Many new swimmers can swim their first meet in a comfortable environment. Veteran swimmers can use the home pool advantage to better their times and vie for the "high point" trophy. It's shaping up to be a great event!
Each year we have an art contest for the program cover. Swimmers, you need to have your cover entries in BEFORE November 9th. The meet committee will decide on the winning "Thanksgiving" entry at their meeting on Monday November 9th.
The Meet Committee will have it's meeting at the pool on Monday, November 9th at 7:00p.m. Charlie Smithson from Park and Rec. will be there, and all people helping with the various meet arrangements MUST be there to finalize details. The Board will have a second and final meeting at the pool on Wednesday November 18th, and we'd like you to be at that meeting too.
If you need a team suit, you MUST order now. If you do not order the team suit by Friday, Nov.13th, chances are, you will not get a team suit in time for the meet... so call Norcal Swim Supplies to order early at: 1-800-752-SWIM.
As you know, we raise money to pay for programs and other meet supplies by selling program ads. These programs are seen by over 600 families. Anyone can place an ad. Your dentist, your Uncle Louie, grandparents, doctors, insurance agents... ask friends to do you a favor and place an ad... they range in price from $15.00 (business card size) to $100.00 (full page size). The deadline for ads (send them to Violeta Dayao) is Friday, November 13th. GET THOSE ADS IN NOW!
Also, if you have not signed up for a certain area of service at the meet, you will be called and placed where you are needed most. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! We will train you for each job - it is all very simple. But we need EVERY PARENT to be there - no exceptions. Parents who will not help, will be assessed an additional fee per the team guidelines.
The Hawaii Meet Parent Committee will be meeting at the pool at 5:30 p.m. on November 2nd (Monday). They will be sharing information to see if the trip is feasible, and at what cost. Also, they will discuss other options in case Hawaii does not work out for some reason. Come to this meeting - we need your input.
Please note that your US Swim Registration dues of $30.00 per swimmer is now due! You were mailed the forms recently, and you MUST send those in right away. These once-a-year dues are in addition to your normal monthly dues, and are required for your swimmer to participate in USS Competitive Team swimming activities. Mail your forms and checks to treasurer Norma Cosiac.
A reminder that your regular team dues are due on the 10th of each month. Late dues are assessed a $5.00 late charge, so get them in early.
will be taken on MONDAY, November 23rd (the day after our meet). There will be no practice that day, and we need ALL team members there, in TEAM SUITS by 5:00p.m. SHARP. If you don't have a team suit, wear dark or navy blue. Order forms for photos will be made available.
Check out our NEW Daly City Dolphin Website! There's still lots to be done, but you can pull the page up and take a look at it at: http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/1612

Parents, be sure you have your entries for the D.C.D. Meet in to Anne Lu for our Meet. Also, Pacifica Meet entries should be sent in NOW as that meet fills up early.
Don't forget to get your ads for our meet program in to Violeta Dayao as soon as possible. If you need letters to show your advertisers they are available at the pool.
Also parents, the 1999 USS Swim Registration is due and EVERYONE must be registered for next year. Cost is $30.00 to USS Swimming.
For the Swim Meet there will be a Committee Heads meeting on November 9th at the pool. The Hawaii Swim Meet Committee will meet on November 2nd at 5:00P.M. in the stands at the pool.
All swimmers and parents are expected to participate in our meet. We can only have one meet a year, and this is the only time our kids have the advantage of competing in the pool they practice in. Parents are expected to help this ONE weekend as the proceeds are used to keep YOUR expenses for team dues the lowest in swimming, and to buy the kids Christmas presents from the team. The BEST reason to be here is that it is FUN!!
