District drums take
beating

BROWNSVILLE -Earning a berth in the final round of the WPIAL
football play-offs has been great for the Brownsville Area High School
football team and has boosted community morale, but it's been damaging
to the drums in the marching band.
The drums, which are between 10 and 14 years old, have required extensive
repairs this year, according to the band director Anne Behary, but the extra strain
from the extended football season has taken its toll on the old instruments.
"There have been times already this year when our drums have fallen apart
on the field in practices and during half-time shows."

Several members of the marching band attended the November school board meeting
with band president John McBride addressing the board.
"There have been times already this year when our drums have
fallen apart on the field in practices and during half-time shows,"
McBride said.
He requested that the drums be replaced prior to the band's trip to
Flordia in April.
McBride said the band would be willing to help raise funds for the new drums
which cost about $8,000, but assistance would be needed from the board.
