Vertical Disparity's
Roy Buchanan!!
Christy and Roy
recently frolicking on the beaches of Cancun
Roy is another one of those strong, silent types.... He really doesn't say much at all. But when he does, LOOK OUT!! It's always a show stopper!! Kinda like one of those ol' buzz bombs... My dad used to call 'em SBD's... "Silent But Deadly"... In fact, he used to call ME his little Buzz Bomb... I never really understood what he meant until I studied war history.... but that's another web site....
Back to Roy!!! Yes, ladies, he's single, but you'll have to get past his guards first. Janet and Cathy will interview you first, and if you pass their test (which is unlikely), they'll put you up to Linda. If you can meet her standards, then maybe, JUST MAYBE, you might have a shot at Roy.
Well, we managed to be granted an interview with Roy, although it was chaperoned by the entire Chelsea Morning Baptist Choir of Greater East Los Angeles. And regardless of the audience, Roy was Frank with us... er, I mean, he was open and candid... Frank gave a completely different interview.... Anyway, I think you'll be downright shocked at what we learned about our boy Roy....:
Q: You been skydiving since DIRT, Roy!! How many jumps ya got?
A: Oh, let's see.... When did I start? And I took some time off to battle a few wars in several third world countries, y'know... How's 2350 sound??? I kinda like that number.
Q: Sounds believable. So, why 8-way, Buck??
A: Y'know, that's a good question. I couldn't believe I actually said yes when Andy asked me. But I didn't really have anything else to do, and I've done it with this group before, and I think we might've had some pretty good fun back then, so I said yes. And, I actually like it, partly because the exits are more fun, and the dives require more finesse, and if you've seen me with the ladies, you know I'm the king of finesse. Next to women, I believe that 8-way is the biggest challenge of skydiving.
Q: What??!! #$%&*#!! Jeez!! Ok, ok, so, why do you compete? Or is that just another extension of the finesse????
A: I compete because it is a measure of how we are doing compared to other people and a measure of our progress. And I really look good with a medal around my neck; a heckuva lot better than Janet does, although I must admit, I don't have her chest to mount it on....
Q: So, what's your favorite block, Buck?
A: Well, I'd have to say it's that one, y'know, where we're all 8 of us together and then we do these 2-way little spinny things, and, well, you know the one I mean, don't you???
Q:Uh, yeah. It's one of my favorites, too. In fact, I'm sure it's one of Janet's favorites, too! The name's not really so important anyway. So, what was your most memorable skydive?
A: My most memorable skydive was a cloud jump in Florida. It was late in the afternoon and there were two cloud layers, and the sun was shining in between the layers. It was like being in a brightly illuminated room. Very surreal.
Canopies drifting in and out of the ethereal vapors. Pretty awesome, although, rest assured, I've never broken a BSR in my entire skydiving career, honest!
Q: Y'know, you're a lot deeper than I originally thought.... Did you used to smoke a lot of weed??? Oh, nevermind. We're all stoners on this bus... So, when you're gazing at the stars, as I know you do whenever you can get away from L.A., do you ever think of profound thoughts on skydiving???
A: I really don't have any original thoughts so I'll offer up an oldie: "Skydivers are people who are more afraid of not living than they are of
dying."
Q: Hey, wait just a minute! Didn't you just swipe that from an old John Wayne movie???
A: Well, son; looks like ya caught me red-handed. So, just stick a fork in my ass and flip me over. I'm DONE!!
