Bob Burnquist. Robert Dean Silva Burnquist (AKA Bob) is a wondrous skater, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bob grew up in Sao Palo, Brazil, and started skating when he was 11. He constantly challenges himself by skating switchstance, which he says "is like learning to skate all over again." Unfortunately, Bob seems to get injured a lot, but he gets up and keeps at it. He skated in the 1998 X-Games with a fractured wrist, not getting a cast on until after the prelims were over. Thrasher magazine named him the 1997 Skater of the Year, the same year he won the overall Triple Crown vert award. He was one of Rolling Stone magazine's athletes of the year for 1999. Bob also surfs and snowboards, and he loves soccer. His girlfriend is skater Jen O'Brien, and they have a kid together. |
