Gotham, DB The Manager Gotham Imperial Theatre Parkway Avenue Gotham, DB Dear Sir, I am writing to confirm the results of our phone conversation of January the 12th. The season ticket booking for the Wayne household is to be increased to three persons from this month. This has become necessary because their son, Bruce, has unexpectedly returned to Gotham from boarding school. I do hope that this arrangement can be implemented without any disturbance to the prebooked seating arrangements. yours sincerely Alfred T. Longfellow 2/8/1925 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Mortuary Brothers Funeral Home 121 Mortis Street Gotham Bay, DB Dear Sirs, I would like to offer the deepest thanks on behalf of the Wayne family for your assistance in this time of sorrow. The deeply respectful service that was arranged has helped greatly in allowing the family to cope with this sudden and awful bereavement. A sum equal to your bill has been deposited in your account at the Gotham State bank. yours sincerely Alfred T. Longfellow 12/1/1925 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Miss Barbara Davis Davis House Stilson Avenue Gotham, DB Dearest Barbara, It is with a heavy heart that I pen this letter to you. I fear that the nature of our relationship must undergo a metamorphisis. While nothing would please me more than for us to continue our liaison, I feel that I would no longer be able to devote to you the attention you so richly deserve. You know of the tradgedy that has befallen the Manor. I love you dearly, but my duty lies with Master Bruce. My sole focus must be on raising him in a manner fit to his calling. I implore you to find it in your heart to forgive me. Always yours, Alfred T. Longfellow 2/21/1926 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Captain J. Fosworth His Majestie's Royal Punjab Barracks Punjab Region India Dear James, This is your old brother in arms, Alfred, writing to ask for your assistance. I realize that this is imposing on you somewhat but I was hoping that you could put me in contact with one of our old acquaintances. The man in question is Mohamed Chang, the wizard or magician that had those remarkable mind and body control abilities. I feel that his assistance is necessary for the recovery of my young charge, who has fallen into a deep depression since his family were murdered by a robber. I thank you in advance for the trouble I am putting you to. yours sincerely Alfred T. Longfellow 4/23/1926 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Dr. C. Jung Jung Private Sanatarium Austria Dear Sir, I am writing to advise you that your treatment program appears to be a qualified success. Bruce has fully recovered his appetite and has begun to regain his physical health. The results of the second part of the program have yet to appear but I feel confident that this is just a matter of time. yours sincerely Alfred T. Longfellow 3/30/1927 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Miss Barbara Davis Davis House Stilson Avenue Gotham, DB Dearest Barbara, Thank you for your letter. I must admit I was both surprised and delighted to hear from you. Master Bruce has reached a full recovery from his ordeal. His health is exceptional and his thirst for knowledge is only matched by his ability to absorb it. I fear however that his emotional state is still dark. I believe the emotional wounds he has recieved will never heal. Master Bruce seems to feel that by complete imersion in his studies and other pursuits he will be able to rid himself of the guilt of surviving the attack. I am channelling that energy in ways that, I hope, will have a positive effect, on both Master Bruce and the world as a whole. On occasion I am at a loss as to how I am to continue in this work. To Master Bruce I must be both Mother and Father, teacher and administrator, guide and friend. I accept my lot happily, for Master Bruce is destined for many great things. I do hope that he continues to respond to my guidance in this manner. I apologise for concerning you with my troubles. I trust that all is well with you. Thank you again for your letter. Always yours, Alfred T. Longfellow 7/15/1928 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Henry Graffermann Cape Town South Africa Dear Sir, In keeping with our previous arrangements, an agent of this estate has been installed in the Kimberly diamond mines equipped with a radio transmitter. This agent will be keeping you abreast of all major developments in the mining areas. You are to use this information to trade diamond stocks and options at a profit, using the Wayne Resources account to which you have access. In keeping with the arrangements we already have regarding the gold and cattle sales, you are entitled to 5% of the profits resulting from these transactions. I can not over emphasise the importance of keeping the radio communications secret. Once the DeBeers or the Rhodes organisations discover our circumvention of their telegraph monopoly we can expect swift retribution, through both legal and illegal means. To guard against confiscation of the accounts they are at no time to be used directly. All trading is to be done through subsidary accounts. I congratulate you on the success of this venture to date and wish you continuing good fortune in our dealings. yours sincerely Alfred T. Longfellow 9/20/1928 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Major J. Fosworth Singapour Base Singapour Dear James, Congratulations on your recent promotion, I am sure it was well deserved. I have been out of touch because of the heavy workload imposed by running the entire Wayne estate as well as seeing to the education of Master Bruce. It is with respect to his education that I am writing to you. He is due for another tutor and the current man, while certainly a good scholar and a fine amatuer boxer, is no longer suitable for the job. I was hoping that in your position you would be aware of an oriental scholar, who is not only educated in the classics, and in foriegn languages, but who would also be a proponent of Chinese boxing, or the way of the chinese hand, as it is sometimes called. Such a man would be invaluble for master Bruce at this time and would no doubt be willing to take on the position in return for an American Citizenship. yours sincerely Alfred T. It seems that even though I am consumed with my work, my love for you continues to grow stronger every day. My time without you has aged me quickly, Annie. I do hope that my appearance does not shock you now, I am no longer the young man you married. I curse them for separating me from you, but I am not man enough to join you yet. My work with Bruce is progressing as well as can be expected. Even though he is a remarkable lad, his progress is not as much as I would have hoped. If revenge is a dish, best served cold, then we, my dear will be served a gourmet feast. Your loving husband, Alfred. 9/15/1935 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Dear Dr Freud, It seems that I am involved in correspondence with you quite a bit, of late. Bruce continues to develop well. In fact, socially, he is rapidly becoming known as one of Gotham's most desirable companions. However, privately, his demeanor has become darker. This letter however is not with regard to Bruce's development, but my own. It seems that while I have been focussing on developing Bruce into the man I know he must become, I have been feeding my own beasts. The episodes of undirected rage that you took such an interest in when I mentioned them in passing last time we met, have increased in frequency and intensity. While I maintain my demeanor on the outside, I hide a terrified and angry interior. It is my understanding that you will be visiting the country soon, this being so, I will request an audience with you at your earliest possible convenience. Yours in Trust, Alfred T. Longfellow. 10/8/1935 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Dear Dr Freud, In accordance with your instructions I have been attempting to record my dreams. However since our meeting I have either been dreamless or I have forgotten them upon awakening. However last night I experienced what I can only call a nightmare, which is still as vivid now as when I awoke in my coalblack room. In accordance with your advice I shall set my recollections down on paper so that you may provide some interpretation of it’s meaning. This dream began with me being back in the Punjab, forcing my way through thick jungle. However, instead of being the tall, broadshouldered young Sargent of Her Majesties forces that I was when I did indeed occupy that Godforsaken corner of the globe, I was as I am now: Older, frail, my body weakened from exposure to Maleria, Dysentry and the Auge. Still I continued on through the thickets, knowing that to stop was to die, either from thirst, exposure, or the terrible beasts that reside in those forests. Entering a small clearing I found a young pup, the torn bodies of its parents lay beside it. Observing the state of the corpses I determined that they had been killed by a tiger, most probably while defending their offspring. Neglecting my own desperation, I took the pup up and cradled it in my arms as I continued my search for assistance. As is the way of dreams, the pup soon began to grow before my very eyes. Within a few steps the animal had grown to be an enormous hound, and yet one could still tell that it was very young. In addition it was still gambolling and rolling on the ground in the way of a puppy, rather than stalking in the way of an adult hound. At this point, I was confronted by the tiger. Tearing itself from my grasp, the hound threw itself at the beast, only to be crushed beneath a titanic claw. The feline monster then bit though its neck, severing the head from the body. Then the huge cat leaped at me, whereapon I woke in a dreadful state. Now I am not so naïve to require all of the symbolism explained to me. The identity of the hound and of the tiger is transparent. However there are other aspects of the dream which puzzle me. Why has the fully grown hound still the aspect and nature of a puppy? Why does the tiger win? And how may I avert the tradgedy that this omen portends? I await your reply anxiously Alfred T. Longfellow. 10/18/1935 Wayne Manor 140 Harbour View Drv. Gotham, DB Dear Dr Freud, Subsequent to our last correspondance I have been the victim of another nocturnal disturbance. As this dream was so very similar to the previous one I felt it imperitive that you become aware of this second apparition as soon as possible to assist in your interpretation. This second nightmare began in exactly the same manner as the first. I was lost in the Jungles of the Punjab and I found a pup that had had its’ parents killed by a tiger. I picked up this pup and walked on whereupon the pup grew into a large hound. This time, however, the hound lost its juvenile demeanor and began to stalk the jungle in the way of an adult. Then, however, as we continued through the forest, I myself began to metamorphasise. To my horror I found myself becoming a tiger. Once this process was complete the hound turned to look at me and began to attack. The last moment I recall before waking was the hound leaping at my throat with its teeth bared. If anything this dream disturbs me more than the previous one did. What is the significance of my remarkable transformation? Why did the hound become a full adult this time and yet not last time? And why do all my dreams end in disaster? I really would appreciate a quick resolution of these issues. Yours’ in anticipation Alfred T. Longfellow. Gotham, DB
