BlackMarket PsychoCross-October

Going the Distance, Going for Speed

The Metamorphosis

It's now october. If you've read much of the crap I've written before, you know how important cyclocross season. To celebrate, the name has changed from VeloSapiens to BlackMarket until cross season is over. The season is just getting underway, so there's not much in the way of results or race reports to offer, except on the DFL Outlaw series. I hope to post timely results from the East Bay series, if I can get Bob to e-mail the results to me after the races.

You're probably wondering about my new house in Forestville. We already signed everything. Escrow closed on October 5th, and we'll be moving in and getting settled shortly after that. I've already scouted out a sweet cx training circuit right outside my door. It includes some fast dismounts on flat ground, and a nice, steep run-up. Hopefully it'll help me not suck this year.

Rants

Why I think cyclocross totally kicks ass. Also a few thoughts on crossbikes vs. mtb's for racing..

Race News

Obviously, the only real race news is cyclocross, and you can trust my recommendations. I have a short writeup of the DFL Urban Outlaw series. For the '98 cross sched check out the NCNCA Cross page.

Equipment Notes

Steel is real! I have a new RockLobster cx frame. If you want, I'll tell you all you could want to know about what I use and why, or check out the review archive for previous reviews about MTB equipment.

Archives Index (sort of)

It's hard to structure the old information in an easy to find format. This is the old, old homepage of this site, with links to the reviews, results, epic rides, etc..

Back Issues of VS

  • September 1998 . Late season results, overview of various equipment I liked.
  • July 1998 9 speed sucks. Long-term SID review.
  • June 1998 Why Richard Cunningham is a dork. Why I love my Esp. An 8-hr epic ride in Nevada City

Links That Don't Suck

  • Bikesite/Mudsluts. This e-zine writes too many positive reviews, but other than that it's pretty cool. They have some incredibly talented, good-looking, athletic contributors.
  • Epic ride stories Some of these are insane, but all are worth reading.
  • Precision Bicycles, your source for Fisher
  • Dan Garcia's Webpage
  • Victor Johnson's page with great maps for backcountry biking and motorcycling in utah.
  • Steve Apgar's Napa Valley MTB page has some good off-road riding info for the Napa Valley area.
  • Adventure Sports Online. Good info for all sorts of biking, rafting, hiking etc.. adventures. The new version of the page seems to be much less graphics and bandwidty intensive.
  • Team WrongWay. This is pretty fun reading. These guys are only semi-serious about racing, but they're all the way serious about having fun. Plus they make fun of Steve, always a bonus.
