Flagstaff Mountain Park

Welcome to Boulder

We spent a few days in Boulder this summer, basicly sightseeing but I had to get in a little climbing..I mean - a climber going to Colorado and not climbing!! yeah right. One problem. This was the hottest spell we had this summer and everyday in Colorado was over 100 degrees. In fact it got up to 109 one day. Not exactly prime climbing conditions but I'll take what I can get.
The Boulder area is full of Climbing history and the Bouldering area with the most history is Flagstaff Mountain Park. This is pretty much a Boulder city park. Alot of the history of this area include such climbing legends as John Gill, Pat Ament, Bob Williams, Layton Kor, Jim Holloway and many others. Amazing views of the famous Flatirons, Just an incredible area!

The first pics are of Chad on the Monkey Traverse, V4. A Classic problem made all the more difficult in the mid day sun. It had cooled down to only 104 degrees this afternoon. The next pics are of the amazingly healthy Boulderites on the Beer Barrel boulder. I fell from the exit moves on the top of this boulder and smashed my heal the day before the 16 hour drive home..FUN!
Oh yeah...If you make it to Boulder ( I recomend it ) Make sure you go to the Pearl Street Mall downtown, Its an incredible mix of cultures and people. We saw Gypsies, Hippies, Homeless, Models, Sword Swallowers, Escape artists, all kinds of street performers and musicians. Oh yeah, Dont forget about Estes Park and Rocky Mountain Nat Park about 45 minutes north. 1
