ACT IV: VERONA, ITALY
- SCENE i: Friar Lauerence's cell on late Tuesday morning.
Friar and Count Paris talk about the wedding ceremony, and what time it is going to be performed and things like that. Juliet arrives to speak to Friar Lauerence, but she first has to deal with Paris and so she talks kindly to him, giving him the feeling that the marriage is still on. Then Paris leaves and Juliet shows her true feelings about Paris, adn talks about rather killing herself than marring the Count. Friar then tells her of his plan, which deals with putting Juliet to a deep sleep and then waking her up after her funeral, and then Romeo and Juliet can escape and live in Mantua. To get this plan into action, Friar Lauerence gives Juliet a vial which contains herbs that have been crushed to a liquid form, upon drinking it can put a person for a deep, long sleep and make her look like she is dead. When she is put in the family tomb, the Friar and Romeo (who will be informed by the Friar) will come to retrieve her.

Juliet is alone in her room with the vial of liquid, and she is guessing what if the liquid does not work, that means she will have to marry Paris tomorrow! What if the vial has poison instead of a sleeping potion, that means the Friar and Romeo will find her dead the next morning! Or what if she gets to scarred in the tomb of her family when she wakes, will she get so scarred that she will kill herself! While all these thoughts are going through her head, she realizes that Romeo loves her and the Friar would not turn his back on her, and so she finally drinks the liquid and falls asleep.
