WHA All Star Games
1973-79
The WHA followed different All-Star game formats every year. The league used
the traditional Eastern vs Western Division format from 1973 to the 1975 and the 1977
All-Star game. In the 1976 All-Star matchup the 6 Canadian based teams played
the 9 American teams in Cleveland Ohio in the brand new Richfield Coliseum.
The attendance for all the games were surprisinly good with an average over
10,000 people a game. In 1978 the WHA usedthe old NHL format of the cup champion
vs the league all-stars. The Quebec Nordiques were the Avco Cup champions and
played host (in Quebec City) to the All-Stars. In the 1979 all-star game, the
WHA all-stars (including future stars Mike Gartner & Wayne Gretzky) played a 3 game
seris versus Moscow Dynamo.
