INTERNET TIPS

Tip 1:

If u are using Windows95 and have a problem with connection or difficulty in getting web sites or not able to connect to the mail server, the most common problem will be with TCP/IP configuration. 


For that,

Goto START-

SETTINGS-

CONTROL PANEL-

NETWORK-

Select TCP/IP or TCP/IP DIAL UP ADATPER-

click PROPERTIES-DNS CONFIGURATION

-click ENABLE DNS-

for HOST type your USERNAME-

for DOMAIN type domain name
(eg: for U.A.E users it is emirates.net.ae, for Qatar it is qatar.net.qa)

for DNS SERVER SEARCH ORDER type DNS Server's IP Address

(for U.A.E it is 194.170.1.6 and 194.170.1.7)





Tip 2:


If u have problem with a particular e-mail message and want to 
delete it from the server to avoid it to download always when u 
check your mail, do the followings..

This method is recommended for users those who are having 
problems in downloading their email messages in the email software.
This requires UNIX knowledge and take care not to give any other
commands unless u are familiar with it. Only follow the steps below.



TAKE CARE WHILE USING UNIX COMMANDS ( I am not responsible for 
any unfortunate things on the server if u played their unnecessarily)


1. Login to the internet using Trumpet Winsock (Win 3.1) or Dial-Up
    Adapter (Windows 95)

2. In Win3.1 goto Trumpet Telnet and in Windows95 goto     START-RUN-type
    telnet.

3. Enter the  HOST NAME as your domain name(In win 3.1) or in Win95
     click CONNECT-REMOTE SYSTEM-for HOST type domain name ( for     U.A.E
    users it is emirates.net.ae)

4. Click CONNECT now.

5. For LOGIN type your username ( first part of your e-mail address)

6. For PASSWORD type your password for internet.

7. Now u will get a prompt( for U.A.E users it is ns2%)

8. Type mailx ( In lowercase )and press ENTER

9. Now u can see all the mails came for u

10. At  ? prompt type d1 for deleting the first message,d2 for 
2nd...so on...

11. At ? prompt type q and press ENTER after finishing step 10.

12. At this prompt (ns2% for U.A.E) type exit and press ENTER.

13. Now try to download your mail through the e-mail software.



Tip 3:

If u want to connect with other Internet sites around the world and u are not able to get connected, you can check whether that server is down or not by doing the following.


1. Follow until the step 7 in Tip 2 

2. Type ping  |domain name|( in lowercase ) Eg. ping      emirates.net.ae

3.  If it is not giving  a positive reply try ping  Eg. 194.170.1.7



Tip 4: 

If you want to get details about your sessions on Internet do the following steps.


1. Follow until the step 7 in Tip 2 

2. Type last |username| Eg. last illyas



 Tip 5: 


You want to find out whether an email address is existing or not.


1.  Follow until the step 7 in Tip 2

2. Type finger |email address| ( This is possible only iIf the server     contain the email address allowing finger command )
