| Fri 26 Dec | 09:15-12:30 | Bat Shlomo | Note: this will be our 50th ride !! We will be holding a "Nivut" (Orienteering) competition. We will be competing in pairs. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pair. Maps will be provided. Prizes. Pairs will leave at 5 minute intervals from 09:30.We meet at old Bat Shlomo (just off the main Yokneam - Zicharon road beteen Elyakim and Zicharon). Coffee will be provided at the start and we will have lunch afterwards in the famouse Old Cheese House restaurant in Bat Shlomo. Due to the cost of the maps, cost this week is 25 NIS instead of 20NIS. Bike rental is the usual price of 25 NIS. |

area of Nir Etzion) + CRITICAL MASS |
This week we are joining other Haifa cyclists in a CRITICAL MASS ride through the Carmel. We will first hold a regular Friday ride around the Nir Etzion area. Meet at the PAZ gas station on the left side of the old Haifa-Tel-Aviv road just past Atlit junction. Be careful you don't take a left turn into the entrance as there is a white line down the middle of the road. Go past, U-turn and come back and turn right. We will finish the ride early (12:00) and those that want can join the Critical Mass ride. CM rides increase the awarenesss of the car drivers that bicycles too deserve their space on the city roads and alerts the general population to the general benefits of cycling (health, economics, enviroment etc). The rides ensures that for at least a couple of hours on a certain day, the bicycle reclaims the road and becomes an integral part of the traffic on an equal basis, even if it holds up the motorist a little. A mass of bicycles on a busy urban route can really drive home a positive message and at the same time give the riders a feeling of enpowerment. All this is done (hopefully) within the laws of the road. The CM ride starts at the Auditorium (Mercaz Ha Carmel) Car Park at 13:00. Megiddo Junction, turning left at Eiron Junction. Kibbutz Barkai is 1 km south of Eiron Junction. Two groups. Advanced group will do a 40km ride: Eiron Hills, with view to Ramat Manashe and the Carmel. Visit an Archealogical site, single trail through Nahal Saria, visit to a lost Village (Ein El Mualakha) and El Mualakha spring, back via. trail near Kfar Barta (mentioned in the book by David Grossman). End at Kfar Um-el-Katif. Beginners: will ride through the fields of Kibbutz Metzer to Bir-El-Asiar, continue along the old 1967 border to Ul-Em-Katif. Total ride 15km. |
