The Ambulance Services I Run With


The Abulance service that I work full-time for is "AMED" .

This Service provides prehospital emergency care for the Altoona, Logan Township and Tyrone Area. This service has 60 people working for them including full-time, part-time and casuals. AMED has 9 ALS units and 3 wheelchair/strecher vans, for nonemergency transports. AMED also has 3 stations, the main Station is located in downtown Altoona, PA, the second station is located in Lakemont, a small community outside of Altoona. The third station is located in Tyrone, PA. This service is the biggest EMS service in Pennsylvaina between Pittsburgh and Philly. AMED does about 10,000 emergency calls a year and about 2,000 Van transport.


The other servie I work for is "Roaring Spring Ambulance" .

This serves people in my local town and many surrounding communities. This service has 3 ambulances, 1 unit is stationed in a community north, and 2 at the main station. The service has just bought a new unit in 1/99. The unit is a Four wheel drive van, This service is looking at buying at least one new unit with in the year.

The Roaring Spring Ambulance Service has 30 active members. All of the members are either paramedics or EMT's. There are 14 Paramedics, 16 Emergency Medical Technicians.
