ALL BLACK MARABOU

This is a tandem fly I tied to target big mulloway in the Swan River. Originally it was to be used at night as a silouette pattern. The somewhat excessive use of marabou gives this fly a very life like action in the water however to date it has not taken any mulloway.
So why did I include it in my fly tying section? Simple it has taken bonito, tailor, salmon and mackeral to name a few. I have had a lot of success using this fly on dusk and through the night for a number of species. I generally fish it around man made structures that are well lit at night, working the area of water where the light fades off. Many predatory fish cruise along the edge between light and dark picking off baitfish attracted to the lights.

Materials :

Hook : Two Size 1/0 - 4/0 Mustad 34007, Gamakatsu SS15 or Trey Coombes Big Game rigged tandem with 30-50lb mono.
Eyes (Optional) : Stick on.
Tail (Rear Hook): Dense clump of black marabou.
Body : The body is tied onto the mono between the two hooks. 2-3 dense clumps of black marabou.
Wing : Black marabou.

Tie the marabou in so that when the fly is wet the whole fly tapers into a baitfish shape i.e. elongated teardrop. This is how it will appear when stripped through water. When the fly stops all the marabou will puff out so that when the fly is retrieved with a steady stripping motion it will appear to pulse.
