Introduction
Without a rod, reel and line a fisherman is basically a spectator but when it comes down to it these things are still pretty useless without a hook at the business end. After all the hook is the connection between angler and his quarry so it is vitally important to use the best available hooks when tying flies.
The two most important things in a hook are strength and sharpness. Too weak a hook will result in breakage and to blunt a hook will result in poor hookup.

Gamakatsu have long been at the forefront of fishing hook technology with over forty years of experience.
To avoid blemishes in the metal which can weken the hook Gamakatsu use only the highest quality carbon steel. Gamakatsu also has the most advanced tempering system in the world. Every hook is heated to the exact temperature that is perfect for that particular style and size then cooled in oil. This process produces hooks which are super strong, but not brittle. It is extremely difficult to achieve a balance between strength and flexibility, and it took many years for Gamakatsu to perfect this process.
The sharpening process Gamakatsu use is the most modern in the world which results in perfectly conical hook points.
These features have given Gamakatsu a 70% share in the Japanese hook market. A mean feat to say the least.

Youvella is a relative newcomer to the Australian market and have almost immediately taken their share of the market. This Korean company manufacture over 3500 different types of fishing hook and achieved an ISO 9002 standard, the first time in the field of hook manufacturers in the world. However only a small percentage of their range has found its way to Australia. As their popularity gains perhaps we will see more of the range come into Australia. Here's hoping.
