MEGA HAIR DECEIVER
This is a variation of the widely known Leftys Deceiver. I tie this fly to represent rounder baitfish often found offshore around FADs. Also used for situations where a large profile is needed. I have had a lot of success on mahi mahi and queenfish with this fly. Definately a big fish fly.
Does take a bit of sinking as the mega hair does hold a bit of air. I usually give the fly a good dunking before casting to fish. Also retains a bit of water and needs a slightly heavier rod to cast.
Materials :
Hook : Size 1 - 4/0 Gamakatsu Trey Combs Big Game, SiWash or Octopus (Suicide style).
Eyes : Stick on eyes. Large sizes.
Wing : MegaHair. I generally only use one colour when tying this fly but two can be used, Light over dark.
Tail : 6-12 saddle hackles with 2 grizzly saddle hackle tied each side and several strands of krystal flash.
Throat : Red krystal flash.
