LEFTY'S DECEIVER

With out doubt the most widely known fly in the world, the Lefty's Deceiver is one of the best baitfish imitations used by flyfisherman today.
Originally conceived by flyfishing legend Lefty Kreh, the deceiver is still one of the most effective flies. It offers a realistic baitfish shape with a lifelike swimming action. Used in any situation requiring a baitfish imitation. Has taken nearly every species that swims that has been taken on a fly.

Materials :

Hook : Size 10-6/0 Gamakatsu SS15, Gamakatsu Trey Combs or Mustad 34007
Body : Dressed light, tinsel or similar
Tail : 6-10 Saddle hackles. (Can be tied heavier) Backbone : One grizzly saddle tied on each side of tail. Eyes : Painted or stick on (Optional)
Wing : Bucktail with several strands of krystal flash
Overwing : Peacock hearl, krystal flash or substitute
Throat : Red krystal flash
Can be tied in any combination but white or variations of are very effective.

An alternative tying that has been very useful late in the day and at night is the all black variation. This fly offers a good silouette and has accounted for many big fish as the sun has dropped. I have had good success fishing around bridges at night with this fly, in particular bridges that have soft lights under them.
