PINK SQUID

This is a general squid pattern that I use on a variety of species such as skippy, silver bream and snapper. Fish this fly deep around pylons and drop offs. Also can be effective fished dead drift along a current line.
This fly is highly mobile and can attract quite savage strikes. On more than one occasion I have been unceremoniously smashed by some nasty critter that obviously wanted the fly more than I did.

Materials :

Hook : Size 6 - 4/0 Mustad 34007 or Gamakatsu SS15. A long shank hook can be used for longer bodied versions.
Eyes : Bead Chain or lead dumbell size to suit hook
Tail : Fluoro pink saddle hackles tied to splay in all directions with several strands of krystalflash mixed in.
Body : Fluoro pink chenille.
Collar/Tube : I like to use a couple of wraps of Fluoro pink zonker strip (rabbit fur) but can be substituted with marabou. Tie in at eye of the hook.

I also tie this fly in white and pale yellow variations, but can be colour suited to match any small squid in the area being fished. Good Luck.
