When Kurt was living alone in an old beat up apartment, he severely
burned his hand while cooking french fries over a lot of grease. The doctor
told Kurt that he would probably never be able to play guitar again. His
mom, Wendy Cobain, took Kurt back into her home and helped him get over
his extreme injury. She soaked the hand for him and peeled off the dead
skin. Kurt had to endure a lot of pain but eventually his hand was recovered.
Now there is barely a visible scar. Just imagine if Kurt had never recovered,
Nirvana would have never existed.
Kurt is an excellent artist, visually. When he had an apartment out
in Olympia with his girlfriend Tracy Marander, (the photographer for BLEACH,
check the back), He used to stay home all day while she worked, and painted.
He also enjoyed creating dolls. Just finding parts and making the weirdest
freak of a baby doll he could. But, it was art. He also liked to paint
pictures of sickly looking beings with frail body parts and weird facial
expressions. Maybe he was just describing his view of the people around
him. The cover of INCESTICIDE has one such painting by Kurt. The frail
looking man sitting down with the empty eyes and neutral expression and
the smaller baby-like figure gripping on to this thing as though to never
let go. Notice the way in which their joints are attached. Also notice
the baby-like figure's head, how it seems to have been left empty by someone
of something. Kurt could have very well been an visual artist rather than
a musical artist if he had pursued it.
