Justin makes his first flight on a float plane he bought from Marti. Click on the pictures below to see a larger picture.
The weather was great, no wind and around 78 degrees. Because of this a lot of boaters and jet skiers were out on the lake. I (Michael) was spotting for Justin. I had to also keep an eye out for swimmers. The first take-off went smoothly. The plane sure is slow until it gets out of the water. As it gets up to speed it goes through a series of hops until it makes one last leap into the air. It's smooth sailing (well, flying) till time to land. That's when you have to find a time to land when the lake is clear. Actually there really wasn't much of a problem until the third flight, Justin had to wait a couple of minutes before the area cleared out. We had a lot of fun with the float plane. I suggested that next time we attach a fuel pump and container to the bottom. The fuel pump could be remotely switch on to fill up the water container. Then the water could be dumped while in the air onto unspecting prey! hahaha:) Unfortunately his engine is just barely able to get the plane out of the water much less haul around a fuel pump and container of water! I did get another interesting idea. A couple of club members have (actually one had) a plane in the shape of a lawn mower. I thought it would be neat to make one in the shape of a hydroplane. Just think of the drunk boaters that would see this boat/plane take off and start flying hahaha!!!

Club member Marty Shankle discribes a neat banner to tow behind his R/C plane.
I have towed a banner behind a Sig Kadet now for about 3 years. I got the idea from the model aviation forum on Compuserve when I was subscribing to it. The way to keep the banner from spinning is simple. Attach some fishing weights on a piece of fishing line. Attach the line to the bottom of the leading edge dowel of the banner. The line that I use lets the wieghts hang approx. a banners width below the banner. As you roll the banner up, lay the line and wieghts out on the banner, and roll up inside, when the banner unrolls, the wieghts won't get tangled. The next trick, Tow with a line from the top and bottom of the dowel attached to the main tow line , with the center of the main tow line at 1/3 the way down the dowel. Good Luck
