SEPULTURA - ROOTS (6.9 on the Richter Scale)

wow.....

This is definitely a new direction for Sepultura, as the name suggests they have gone back to their tribal roots. A lot of tribal sounds, like Max on his Berimbu and tribal type drumming have been used. Even a track featuring the Xavante tribal people of Brazil is on here, it's called Itsari ('roots'). While not completely listenable all the way through (especially track 16 which at the end has this majorly annoying kind of scraping sound that drags on for about 4 minutes!). Despite some of the pitfalls, this like a lot of the new albums from a lot of old bands is ground breaking stuff. For the KoRn fans out there, Jon Davis (lead Korn vocalist) features on a track called 'Lookaway' which is a very strange track, very, very Korn. Jon wrote the lyrics and sings most of the song but Max sings on it too. Cool shit. Roots Bloody Roots has got to be the best track, followed up by Cut throat, Spit then Straight Hate. The vocals are pretty awesome, some nice guitar and bass solo's thrown in, a lot of tribal drumming. Have a look sometime at it.

Highlights: Roots Bloody Roots, Cutthroat, Spit, Straighthate
