SOULFLY - SOULFLY (8.6 on the Richter Scale)
SOULFLY as you might know is Max Cavaleras' (ex-Sepultura vocalist/guitarist) new band. Band members Jackson Bandeira (guitarz) Marcello Rapp (bazz) and Roy Mayorga (drumz) were hand-picked by Max. You might also know that Jackson has left the band and was replaced by Logan (ex-machine head guitarist). This CD is what seems to be a natural evolution from the Sepulturian roots. If you haven't heard 'ROOTS', it was very tribal orientated with the band reaching back to their Brazilian tribal roots and the tribal sounds of other countries. This cd unlike 'ROOTS' you can just sit down and listen to and appreciate every song. There are heavy ass songs 'Bumbklaat', funky songs 'Umbabarauma' and calm almost soothing relaxed songs like 'Karmageddon'. The Sepultura grind has been replaced with a bit more musical talent, interesting new techniques, a funky vibe comes form the whole album. But it's definitely still metal. Guests on this album include Chino Moreno (Deftones), DJ Lethal (sugar ray), Fred Durst (limp bizkit) and Benji (dub war). Get this CD!
Highlights: Bumbklaat (my personal favourite), Umbabarauma (most unique metal I've heard), and Tribe.
