Brooklyn - If the size of the police force handling an event is an indication of its possible magnitude, then what happened in Brooklyn, NY this weekend would make the Pope's visit look like a private party. What did happen was, according to a People Magazine reporter, "Completely surreal."

The grand opening of the Bally's Fitness this past Saturday in Brooklyn, NY, saw one of the hottest upstart wrestling promotions in the country team up with the biggest star in the industry to create the biggest wrestling promotional event in AWA Superstars history. "I have never seen anything like this in 20 years on the force," said Inspector O'Donnell, the head police officer of the event, who estimated the crowd size at well over 8,500 people. He continued, "This is by far the biggest turnout for a celebrity that I can ever remember." Even the Rock himself was a little surprised. "This is a great event...for Bally's for the AWA and for the Rock," The Great One professed. He barely got out those opening words when he was drowned out by the thousands of fans who had been waiting for his arrival for literally hours. "I've been here since last night and I finally got to see him and it was awesome," yelled one hardcore fan.

As the Rock signed hundred of autographs, the superstars of the AWA entertained the thousands of fans waiting outside via closed-circuit jumbo-trons placed in the streets. During one break, former Congressional candidate as well as former AWA champion, "The Illustrious" Jonnie Stewart, went out in the 90 degree heat to address the thousands of onlookers. "I can speak for the Rock and the AWA....when I say that we are simply overwhelmed by your presence here today," said The Illustrious One.

Saturday's event will have to mark a huge step for the two year old promotion. To produce this kind of event and snag the biggest star in entertainment will certainly cement the AWA's place on the national wrestling map. "This was a huge deal for us," said AWA President Dale Gagne. "This is got to completely legitimize us in the entertainment and wrestling industry," said the smiling 33 year old wrestling promoter. Whatever the ramifications are....Saturday was truly a milestone for the AWA Superstars of Wrestling. 1
