Minister for Sport views GAA
Facilities
Publication: Anglo Celt
Date: February 2002
Minister
for sport and tourism, Jim McDaid paid a visit to Monaghan on Thursday
last and spent part of the day viewing the facilities at a number of GAA
clubs in north Monaghan.
With an election looming it was speculated that his visit could well
have been to get some ground work done in that regard but there was no
talk of polls, opinion or other wise as he visited six clubs and
discussed plans that had been the subject of applications for Lottery
funding.
On his trip to the border county he took in Monaghan Harps new grounds
at Rooskey, Clontibret who are developing facilities at their
training pitch, Gaeil Triucha, Tyholland who are extending their
community facilities to include a gym and ancillary facilities, Eire Og
whose new club rooms are now in use and Scotstown who have applied for
funding for further development work at Kilmore. At each venue he saw
copies of the various plans and discussed the differing requirements
that need to be met with such projects.
As well as viewing club projects the Minister was also acquainted with
the plans that Monaghan County Board have for their Centre of Excellence
at Cremartin which when completed will provide three training pitches
for county teams as well as an administrative HQ for the committee and
it is to be hoped that the visit will pay dividends in the future. U16
