Equal scoring is used for hang gliding and paragliding. Because of the limited setup area and air traffic concerns, all pilots flying during the October's Best weekend must register with the officials in the mountain's landing field and pay the fly-in entry fee. Furthermore, ALL PILOTS flying at Sauratown Mountain MUST be current members of the United States Hang Gliding Association. ENTRY FEE An entry fee of $35 is required of ALL pilots whether competing or fun flying. The fee is required for both mountain and aerotow launches. MOUNTAIN LAUNCH Cliff launch special skills sign off is required to launch from the mountain. Competing pilots must launch from locations that are monitored by a fly-in official. Pilots must state their name and fly-in registration number to the launch official prior to each flight. LANDING FIELD The main LZ at the base of Sauratown Mountain must be used for all Target Landing and Duration tasks. Upon landing, pilots must state their name and fly-in registration number to the LZ official. SPOT LANDING COMPETITION There are TWO targets located in the mountain's LZ. Pilots may select the appropriate target for wind conditions at the time of their approach. Pilots may attempt spot landings as many times as desired. Only landings within the 50' diameter target circles will be scored. Pilots must land remaining on their feet without the glider nose touching the ground. Each pilot's best score will be used for the final scoring. The pilot's second best score will be used to settle a possible tie. DURATION COMPETITION Pilots may launch beginning at 10:30am and fly until 6:00pm. Pilots landing after 6:00pm will be scored at 6:00pm. Pilots must land at the mountain LZ to be scored. CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION Pilots may fly open distance in any direction with a 5 mile minimum required to qualify. Pilots without GPS must obtain a phone number near their landing and be able to spot it on a map. Retrievals are the responsibility of each pilot. Officials will assist where ever possible. |
