Ah, a surfer's life... Paddle out, turn around and ride waves... Unfortunately, the waves aren't always there. That's when I turn to reading to get my stoke level at a maximum for when the next swell rolls in. Below you will find a collection of some of my favorite surf books. Picture Books:
This is a collection of 15 beautiful black and white photographs from surfings past. The photos are 11X14 and beautifuly printed. Only 1,000 copies were printed. Some of surfings most famous photographs- like Greg Noll on the beach at Pipeline, Eddie Aikau at Waimea, portaits of the Duke and much more, all ready to be framed. The photographers are John Severson, Tom Blake, Joe Quigg, Tim McCullough, Don James, Clarence Maki and Ron Stoner. A one of a kind collection.
This book covers pictures from 40 years of SURFER magazine. SOOOOO many good pictures. If you have a coffee table, I suggest you adorn it with this beauty.
If you're into HUGE tropical waves and towing in, this book is indispensable. This is a big book for a big wave with excellent aerial and other photography.
Surf Travel Guides:
This book covers every major swell zone on Earth. If you are thinking of going on a surf trip but unsure of where to go, this is your book. It rates surf zones based on pluses and minuses and has long descriptions. Also it has information about visas, local currency and local dangers, such as sharks or banditos.
If you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, then take this guide with you. It'll teach you where to surf, where to stay, where to eat, and many more things. Learn what the locals already know!
