When i initially sought out the comfort and relaxation of that white powdery stuff we call snow, i experienced it quite painlessly on a pair of rental skis. Four years went by...i learned to turn, make pole touches, jump and get 2 inches of air, and of course, snowplow. However, i never quite mastered the moguls. Those just, to put it simply, blew my mind. Tired of navigating down the slope with a ridiculous ease, i decided to try snowboarding. Hey, i said. Looks fun, kinda like skateboarding, and you get to wear neeto clothes. Plus you get to talk to the guys. So i was caught.

Oy. My goodness. This year was such a pain up the ass. School work was beyond torture and then snowboarding left me on my butt with lovely little bruises. One hint for wannabes...get some balance before you try to do any stunts. It takes a while to learn how to deal with the fact that your feet are stuck to a piece of plastic and they are not going to move. Even if you break both legs, you'll still be in the bindings. And it is mucho different from skiing. You have no support from poles and your butt is the only thing between you and the snow. Which is oh so especially nice when the "snow" is hardpacked, icy, fake snow, scattered with ice chunks. But i'm grateful for that ruff first year, i learned a lot and know not to take good riding for granted.
