I started my career in the fire service in 1964 as a volunteer for the Crest Fire Dept. In 1968 I worked my first fire season with the California Dept.of Forestry (in San Diego Co.) as a seasonal Firefighter. From Feb. of 1969 until Feb. of 1971 I served withUncle Sam in the U.S. Army. On May 16, 1972 I was hired permanently and was stationed in Orange County. At that time CDF had the contract for emergency services. In Dec of 1973 I transferred to the Grossmont Mt. Helix Fire Protection Dist in San Diego. In 1988 we consolidated with the Spring Valley Fire Protection Dist. to form the San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection Dist. After 31.5 years of fulltime paid service I retired on December 31, 2003. On July 3, 2008 the East County Fire Dist. (Crest & Bostonia) consolidated with San Miguel.
