Thinking
back to when I first started skating around
1985, there was a bowl structure in the Monarco
St park that seemed old and used so much that
I was surprised that it was still skatable way back then. Some time since
then, the council did have to pull the place down, before it really did
crumble into the dirt. For a while, there was a metal structure that resembled
a half pipe, being all too narrow and way too tall, 10ft wide and 8ft high,
(1ft of pure vert) and just dropping in on it was scarry enough for us
at that age. This ramp was resurfaced finally with metal after the ply
surface was repeatedly burnt. Then it was cut down to a much more managable
6ft, and is still in the north end of the park, just near the big bridge
that crosses Monarco St.

The
bridge construction is more interesting to
many skaters nowdays because of its concrete banks that run quite smoothly
up its sides. There is also a good stretch of road that you can see in
both directions, giving skaters the road as a run up, the bridge banks
and also the curbs, a few gaps and other street obstacles that make this
place quite fun.
