Carindale Skate Bowl

East Brisbane

Built: 1989

Address: Meadowlands Rd (Meadowlands Park)

In the eighties, the local councils put in a lot of little concrete bowls, some three sided, some four with a drain in one corner. The bowl in Meadowlands Park, off Meadowlands Road is one of the better bowls in the Brisbane area. The park also has a drink fountain not too far away, as well as a playground of sorts, some picnic tables, a lot of spare grassy room to kick a ball around and I am not sure but I think there might be a basketball half court there now as well? At least everyone should be happy with a park like that - you can go have a skate while the rest of the family has a picnic, or something like that. It worked for me when I was too young to drive out there myself.

The bowl itself is not too hard to get used to, even though it has rather tight little transitions. This in itself is a good thing, being easier to do slides on, eg I have video of us all skating there about seven years ago and with a little wax and a bit of speed, I got good long tail slides, blunt slides, nose slides and not so long ago, I went back and got some good nose blunt slides (one of my fav tricks of last year). Anyway, it just goes to show that the little bowls a lot of skaters say are crap can still be used well if you put your mind to it, and being great to learn things on with not many people around, as hardly anyone goes to these places any more.

I don't know who is in charge of the project but you could visit them at:
