Address:
Gordon Lanham St (Goodwin Park)
To
many of the local skaters around the Tweed,
Qld - NSW border, this place was the answer to their problems with council
cracking down on street skating along the shopping front. Situated in the
big Memorial park, (Goodwin Park)
just off Gordon Lanham St,
this place is a couple of blocks back from the beach, so it doesn't get
all the wind or sand the way some other coast parks do. It is a little
hard to see from the road, but once you find the park, just go for a wander
and you will see it soon enough, I would think. That is how I found it.
The
layout is fairly basic, with a quarter pipe
running round half of the oval/rectangular shape. The coping sticks out
a little more than normal, but that only makes it more of a challenge.
There is a small banked hip at one end, a grind block with a small spine
right beside the back of it, a nice tall flat rail on the other side and
a couple of gutter style edges round the trees they kept in the middle
of the park that are hard to get on to, but can be grinded or slid as is
your want. The other obstacle, and the best one in my mind is the small
banked box right in the middle, rectangular in shape with a low square
rail running right the way along and then down one end. There is still
enough room to ollie the box lengthways, or go sideways over the rail,
or a combination of either. The only problem is the drainage, having trees
all around and right in the middle of the park, it is nicely shaded from
the sun, but takes a rather long time to dry if it does get wet.
