Elanora
Skate Bowl
Gold
Coast, 1.5 hrs south of Brisbane
Built:
1980's
Address:
K.P.
McGrath Dr (access also via highway underpass)
Just
in from the beach a few blocks is Elanora,
and off K.P. McGrath Drive
is a concrete constuction that is not for the faint hearted. It is beside
the state school in the park area between houses and the freeway. You can
also access it via the highway underpass, but I have not been there in
many years so I don't know if there is a road that leads right up to the
ramp the way it used to.
There
is no other way to describe the Elanora half
pipe/bowl than BIG AND BURLY!
It is at least 8 ft high with a small vert top to the transitions, a slightly
rounded lip where it has been through years of grinding and sliding, and
some bumps and lumps but nothing to really worry about. This is not a ramp
to just have a lazy day at, because you will easily end up at the bottom
missing skin, like I did. Although I like ramps more than street, this
was one ramp that made me want to go and cruise around the school next
door rather than be brutalised by its curves. My brother on the other hand
had a much better big ramp and air ability, so it was good to watch him
do his stuff before he quit skating...
