Nexus Skate Park

Nerang, 1 hr south of Brisbane

Built: 1997

Address: Broadbeach Rd, Nerang (cnr Chisolm Rd)

Not far from the Gold Coast, off Broadbeach Rd, on the corner of Chisolm Rd, Nerang is a huge church run "fun park" that has many sports facilities including a fully enclosed concrete street skate park and a big (pink) vert ramp. This goes under the name of the "Nexus Youth Outreach Centre" or something like that. I will give you more info when I dig it up from where ever I put the brochure I got last time I was there. As far as I know, it costs $5.00 a day to go there (opening times: all day on school holidays and Sat, all other times, just at night with the lights on), but that includes the skate ramps, swimming pool, basket ball, volley ball, mini golf course (putt putt golf), tennis? (maybe) indoor games and pool tables and a few other things... I don't have a current list so I really don't know all the things that you can do there but there are lots of things to do besides skating, if you get tired of what they have there.

Now, as far as the ramps go, the vert ramp is the latest addition, having its paint done by Donut King, (giving it the pink colour) but I haven't actually seen it except in passing in the car so I don't know what it is like to skate. The street course, most people would know because of all the media coverage of it in its 3-4 year existence, the various comps that have happened there, the pro tour stops and other events they hold. Basically, it is in a square shaped enclosure, a big bank 8ft high running along one whole side with a quarter launch ramp 5ft built into the middle of the bank, a very gentle bank fun box 1-2ft high, in the middle of the park with a rail 1ft high, running along and down one side, a good sized bank hip 4ft high in the left corner (as you look from the top of the main bank), a very steep quarter hip 5ft high, in the right corner, far left middle has a grind block 10ft long 1ft high with a little jumpy platform thing (sort of like a block, quarters at each end and grindable block edge in middle) on one side 1/2 ft high, same length overall as big block, and finally opposite on the far right side in the middle is a double wedge feature like two bank ramps put back to back to do things over.
