Nudgee
Skate Ramp
North
East Brisbane
Built:
1994
Address:
Eliot
Rd (in recreational reserve beside train station)
To
get to the Nudgee ramp, the easiest way by
far is jump on the train, as the station is right beside the ramp. If you
would rather drive there, as I do, then find Eliot
Road and drive right to the end of it, after
the industrial area, where the park starts. Depending on what time or day
you go there, the gate might be open (in which case drive in and turn right,
along and then up to where the ramp is) but be careful as they can shut
it without you seeing from where you are skating and it is not fun getting
the police called on you for trespassing or cutting the lock to get out.
If it is not open, you can drive along the dirt track to the right, between
the bush barrier and the creek. This will get you quite close to the ramp,
but you cannot see your car when you are skating, so beware of thieves.
There are no taps, toilets or shops around the area, so bring everything
you need with you, but try not to leave rubbish around the area, please.
It is your ramp - look after it.
Now,
the ramp itself is certainly a one of a kind.
Although it is on stilts keeping it a foot off the soggy ground that is
around it, this little 2ft metal mini spine ramp is one of my favourites
in the Brisbane area. It is quite wide enough to do many grinds on, the
transitions are tightish so it does slide too, and there is a roll over
on one side of the spine part. When the paint comes off, it can be a little
slippery, like all the metal surfaced ramps. As far as I know it is still
ok, (I have not been out there for a while) but I heard one side of the
roll over part was lifting at the join between curve and flat bottom making
it roll over one way but not the other. This would be a bit of a problem,
but one I am sure I could get around easily enough. It is right out in
the middle of nowhere so there is no shade and it gets very hot, but if
it rains, it does dry up pretty quickly. I know I am biased because it
is a ramp and not a block or a bank, but I would love to have this or build
one like it in my backyard any day! Go check it out!
