For
the area of Redcliffe, there used to only
be a really old bowl at Woody Point
that has been there since the stone age. It is still skate able although
being flexible in skating ability is a must for this place. The double
bowl joined by a shallow channel was the ideal skate facility of the early
eighties, having a small bowl for beginners and a deep bowl for the more
experienced skater.

A
few years ago the council decided to put in
a ramp on the water front and a small street area. With no real knowledge
of skate facilities, they did fairly well with the ramp, being about six
ft high and made of metal, with a laminate surface that would last until
the end of the world. It is not too bad to ride, but the surface takes
a little while to get used to. The so called street area is just a flat
slab of concrete with a very slight inclined bank at one end. I am sure
they were going to build something more on this nice big flat area (maybe
they have since I was last there) but it is really just a place to do flat
land tricks, eg. kick once, roll, kick flip, roll and stop. I have not
been back there for quite a while.

Now,
the new park located on
Oxley Ave is quite the wonder of wonders.
It has all the main ingredients for a top of the line skate park but still
one is left wondering if someone could have done a better job or double
checked the measurements before building it. You would see what I mean
when you skate it yourself. Overall it is a very good park with lots of
things to do. There is a little capsule bowl built into the platform at
one end, many banks, curves, a big bowl end, a set of stairs, (with no
real run up to them) a rail and a grind block, an "X games" like quarter
to bank launch box in the middle and a low but long grind rail running
down one side. Check out the photos for a good look at this place.
