Runaway
Bay Skate Bowl
30
mins south of Brisbane
Built:
1980's
Address:
Oxley Dr (cnr Lae Dr - unsure)
Runaway
Bay was the home of many little skaters who
grew up to be well known around the scene, such as Christian
West and Al Boglio.
(Quite a few Slam magazine
covers and other pics of the park have been seen over the years, but none
recently.) It is not far from the Gold Coast,
but most often forgotten by many who go straight from Brisbane to the Coast
via the freeway that cuts out everything in between.
The
bowl itself has been there for as long as
I have known what a skateboard was, certainly a lot longer than almost
all of the other parks around the greater Brisbane area. It is not that
high, between 4 - 5 ft, but it is very tight, very kinked and bumpy and
hits vert in some areas. It is the standard "U" shape, with two roll ins
facing each other at the ends. I have not been there for many years, only
skating it once in the eighties, thinking it not to my liking and never
going back, so I really don't know exactly where it is or if it is still
there or anything.
