Lord, we offer thanks and praise
for the circle of our days.
Praise for radiant brother sun,
Who makes the hours around us run.
For sister moon, and for the stars,
Brilliant, precious always ours.
Praise for brothers wind and air,
Serene or cloudy,
foul or fair
from Canticle of the Sun, St. Francis of Assisi, 1225
So, you ask what's the deal with calling our place on the web My Old Kentucky Home? To tell you the truth, it doesn't really matter, because the joke occurred so long ago that now it gets a little lost in the telling. Suffice it to say that it sounds like an awfully nice name for a home page, so, like many things that get embedded in our lives for silly reasons, I decided to keep it.
From time to time I discover additional information about the family genealogy and will continue to share new facts as they're uncovered. If you have any information about our family history to share, please do! For the time being, please visit my sister Nancy's public website which shows names only for living relatives.
We have recently connected our family tree to two large families, through "Nell" Barton Carroll, who was...
...mother of Andy Carroll
...paternal grandmother of Ula Marie Carroll Seavey
...maternal great-grandmother of Patricia Ann Gibbs
...and my maternal 2nd great-grandmother!
Nancy's diligent research of Council, Idaho history determined that her given name was actually Miranda Ellen Barton. She was born 1861 in Miller County, Missouri, the ninth of thirteen children of Elizabeth Ann Hendon and Bentley Barton (click on the names for the official family websites for these families). More information is available at the private site at MyFamily.com. You'll need an invitation just e-mail me to view the pages there.
