Leg Submissions
Submissions involving the legs are amongst some of the lesser known and more dangerous family of submission holds. When executed properly with skill and intent they become the most difficult holds to counter and/or escape. When applying these holds one must do so with control (as with any submission) but one must be especially careful with legs.
Because of the legs innate anatomical strength the pain comes after the damage so it is imperative to know what to expect or feel before having one applied. It is strongly suggested an individual practice leg locks carefully and frequently before applying them. It is also imperative that one knows when to tap. To fight out of an armbar or resist results in a sore arm for the next day. Doing the same with legs can result in an inability to walk the next day.
The following are examples of various attacks on the leg/foot/knee.
