CABARETE

Conditions
Cabarete satisfies all!! It's bay is enclosed by a stone reef which is 0.5 to 4 meters below the water surface and so the Atlantic
swell breaks about 800 meters away from the beach. Inside there are good slalom conditions with up to 2m swell. But the
conditions are very safe inside so even waterstart trainers find a good place there.
In the morning the wind still sleeps and even beginners can make their first experiences if the shore break isn't too hard.
The normal Trades blow sideshore from the right and start around 2pm. If the weather is stabile you can sail every day!
The reef supports experienced wave sailors with a break up to over mast high walls, but 1.5 to 2.5 meter is normal.

Material
The stuff you should carry to Cabarete depends on your sailing style. If you are a waver the best board is an early planer
(should float a little) because the currents on the reef are strong and the wind is not very constant. Sail sizes seen in the reef vary
from 5.0 to 5.7 at normal days and if you are about 70 kg you will not need a sail smaller than 4.5.
Cause of the great distance from the beach to the shore (800 meters) there is enough space for a lot of slalom specialists! Sails
there are a bit bigger but more than 6.5 is wasted weight!

Rentals
If you don't want to carry and damage your own stuff there are plenty of possibilities to rent a board. I have never seen so
much stations at a single place. I guess they have more than 300 Boards and Sails there (of any kind). I think the decision if you
should rent a board (about 150 US $ per week) or bring your own (30 US $ storage per week) depends on the length of your
holiday or on the amount of money you can waste.
