Click here for a quick highlight of the rivers

Being from Dublin and paddling with UCD Canoe Club, this is the part of the country I know the best...

The Wicklow mountains provide rivers ranging from beginner white-water (Oooh, watch out for that rock over there) to grade 5+ deathfests (Gurble).  It's also full of great places to base yourself . Add to that the fact that it's only a 45 minute drive from Dublin and you're laughin'....

Most of the good rivers are in the North of the range and thus, even nearer to Dublin (the Dargle is just a 30 minute drive from the city centre - traffic permitting).

What's also good about the place is that there usually is a nice village near most of the rivers, with good pubs, coffe shops / restaurants, etc. to recouperate in.

Paddling central tends to be Laragh:  It's situated at the junction of Glenmacnass, Glendalough and Glenmalure (plenty of rivers in all of these).  There's little there apart from Lynams Pub and the Wicklow Way Hostel, in my opinion one of the best pubs and hostels in the country.  As well as being paddler friendly (Huzzah!!!) the Glenmacnass river flows right behind it, down to Jacksons Falls on the Annamoe. Purrfek.

Other good spots to locate yourself include Roundwood and Tiglin, though there are plenty of others
