The Yugoslav Singular National Championship in Powerlifting, 2000

This Championship has been held on 3rd June 2000, in Panchevo,
a small town very close to the capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade.
It has taken me so long to put up these results because I was waiting for
the pics from the meet to be scanned. The meet has started at noon precisely,
but I've arrived at 3 P.M. due to some duties I had eariler that day...
When I arrived, the 181.75 class was finishing. I was called to judge the
275's & 308 lbs classes (as always). Since I find those classes the most
interesting, I'll introduce you to some of the lifters down below. Within the
text you'll find the name of the lifter which is linked to the picture...
.
Here's a promising Junior, Papic Kristijan, who's a member of a powerlifting club
from Belgrade called: "Red Star".  He's very ambitious, but also has a lack of experience,
which is why he bombed his squat opener with 594 lbs. Papic Kristijan is 272.8 lbs heavy.
As you can see, when his squat gets heavy - his knees cave in. I think that suggests that his hips
are his 'weak' link. He uses a narrow stance in competition. I think this guy is gonna become
a very serious powerlifters as he gains some mileage...
.
This is Mitrovic Igor, from the powerlifting club called "Railroader". He's from 'Indjija'
a very small town in Serbia. He's 292.6 lbs heavy, very thick, and a strong lifter!
He has a somewhat ugly form when his squats go heavy: he dives down very very
deep, but when he starts the ascent he bends over alot, so it looks like he's doing
a squat/GM combo... This looks very scary!!! He gets completely wet from sweat
in a matter of seconds, and it's amazing what kind of beating his low back can take...
This is Mitrovic Igor doing a 704 lbs squat & this is him doing the 663.3 lbs deadlift...
.
This is Milan Jovanovich , a 283.8 lbs lifter from Nish. He is the reigning,
multiple Yugoslav Champion both in the 275 lbs & 308 lbs class, and the W.P.A Champion in the
275 lbs drug free division. He has won this title on a meet that was held in
Lancaster / Pennsylvania U.S.A, the W.P.A. World's Championships, during 1-2 April 2000.
A very friendly, big guy, with lotsa experience. He is always very calm during the meet,
but very focused. He uses a very wide stance for the squat & his squat is very powerful!
The picture above shows his 728.2 lbs squat...
.
This is a pictured of our best lifters in the 308 lbs class. From left to right:
Milan Jovanovich, Mitrovic Igor & Jevtic Ugljesa.
.
This is a picture of Milan & me after the meet was over...
(Look how his 283 lbs compare to my puny 220's)
.
And finally, me as a referee at the meet...
