Wim
Elyn, IPF World Champion
Igor: Can
you tell us in which federation do you compete in and what are your greatest
achievements so far (placements, total and personal bests in SQ, BP &
DL)?
Wim:
I am a memeber of the VGPF (Flemmish Weightlifting and Powerlifting Federation)
recognized by the KBGV (Royal Belgian Weightlifting and Powerlifting federation)
regognized by the EPF and IPF. (Belgium is as Yugoslavia seperated
in diferent parts, we have a Flemmisch, French and Deutch speaking part
off belgium). Bigest lifts: squat 265 Bench 170 and DeadLift 265.
In the 60 Kg class.
Igor : When
did you start training with weights?
Wim: 1989
. I am born in 1964 .
Igor : How
did you gather valuable training knowledge apart from experience and what
sources of information did you trust mostly?
Wim:
My parameters are based on experience, I write my own trainings cycle-program.
Igor :
Do you train traditionaly and how is you training schedule organized?
Wim: I
plan a training cycle of 12 weeks. 7 till 10 trainings weakly in 4 or 5
days (3 or 2 days recuperation).
Igor
: Can you give our readers some general hints about what should be incorporated
into a routine that can affect an increase in the bench press?
Wim: Plan
a peaking, start with low maximums even if you can do more to end with
high maximums. In this way you peak your performance. By example in the
first week of 12 I start with a maximum squat of 200 to end with a maximum
off 260 on training.
The reps have to be planned weekly as follows:
55% of the reps must be reps off 80% off the maximum
45% of the reps must be in the 90% zone
and 5% must be reps in the 100% zone
In the beginning of the cycle many complemantary execrcises and less technique
exercises (squat, bench and lift). At the end less complemantary
exercises and a lot of technique exercises.
Igor : What
should be the major concern in lifts like the squat & deadlift and
what kind of approach should be result producing?
Wim: Training
with complemantary exercises on the sticking points.
Igor
: Can you give our readers a tip how to strengthen the supportive grip
that is necessary for dead-lifting?
Wim:
Never lift with straps, overload deadlift from blocks.
Igor
: Can you give us an explanation why lifters hit plateau’s and how can
they remedy this?
Wim: Plan
your competitions, if you always stay on the maximum you won't make progression.
A peaking begins very low to end high (plan your maximums in squat, bench,
lift).
Igor
: What kind of bench shirt do you prefer?
Wim: Inzer
is the best!
Igor
: Since you’re coming to Kumanovo (Macedonia) would you like to be a guest
of a full powerlifting meet in the month of December that will take place
in Yugoslavia and that will be sanctioned by WPA Yugoslavia?
Wim:
Ofcourse, if I am already in Macedonia and my superiors let me go.
I'll be there. PS, even in Macedonia I stay in touch by the same
E-mail adress.
Stay
tough!
