International
(internet) Bench Press Championships
We
had our first, promotional meet on September 11th 1999 as a WPA affiliate.
It was held in a gym within the sport complex "Pioneer", in the capital
city of Yugoslavia - Belgrade. Officailly, it was a bench press meet, but
our committee permited attempts of squats and deadlifts (only for record
purposes!) after the bench press meet was over. The referees during the
bench press meet were: Mihailo Antonijevich (central referee), Igor N.
Jolevich & Randjel Lilic (side referees). And the referees during the
squat and deadlift record attempts were: Igor N. Jolevich (central referee),
and Perucica Predrag & Lilic Randjel (side referees). This meet was
taped by the local television and broadcasted on the "Studio b" television.
Overall, there
were 23 competitors. Two of them in the master age category (40-44, and
60-64), a couple of them in the Junior age division, and we also had a
female competitior as well. The weigh-in was scheduled and executed from
10-11 a.m. Afterwards, we had a short meeting of the powerlifting committee
where we provided some general information about the governing rules and
organization of W.P.A (World Powerlifting Allaince). Before the actual
meet we also had an informative chat with the lifters to prepare them for
the first WPA sanctioned meet...
The
meet started on time (12:00, noon) and (with the awards ceremony) was over
at 15:00 p.m, also as planned. It was a swift meet, and there where 10
National records registered...
