Dirt Jumping and Freestyle How-To's
Note: Some of these may have been hard to explain... Hope it helps!
Barturn Get some air off a jump, then turn your handlebars sideways quickly. Depending on your air you may be able to hold this longer. Most people turn their bars to the right. Start small, then pull them off bigger. One Footer Get some air off a jump, then take one foot off your pedals. when you do this your crank will rotate, so you will have to land your foot back on differently. Start by barely taking your foot off, then get bigger and bigger! One Hander Get some air off a jump, then take one hand off your handlebars. Practice this by taking your hand off a little further each time. Just remember to get your hand back on in time! Table Top Go off the lip of a jump, then turn your handlebars sideways and lean your bike and body to the other side. Get bigger as you progress. Its all in the legs, good luck! No-Footer Go off the jump, and right when you get in the air take both feet off. Make sure the crank arms are horizontal when you do this. Lift up and them kick them to the sides. This will lessen the rotation of the crank. Bringing them back can be tricky. I find landing my feet back on the crank arms instead of the pedals easier as you won't slip your pedals as much. Pull them off bigger as you progress. X-up While enjoying some air, turn your handebars 180 degrees so the front of your bars are facing you. Lean back behind your seat. Now your arms will be crossed like an 'X'. Just remember to bring your bars back or you will get hurt (maybe!). 180's Aproach a jump at slow/medium speed. Right at the lip of the jump shift all your body weight sideways. If you do this right, you'll land backwards. After you land, you will have to pedal backwards a crank or two. 360's These are much harder than 180's to perfect. This time shift your weight harder. If you do it right you will spin all the way around and land frontwards. You might a bit more speed, but it takes time. Barspin First off you need a gyro or a long front brake cable. Then get some air, pinch your seat with your knees and spin your handlebars around 360 degrees. Dont let the bars catch you in the gut! Superman Get alot of air, then take off both feet and kick them back. While attempting this make sure your bike is somewhat vertical in the air. Superman-Seatgrab Do the superman, but this time take off one of your hands (whichever feels comfortable), and grab your seat. Then get all 3 limbs back on and land it! Good luck. |

Nothing This is where your hands and feet aren't touching your bike. Go off the jump then quickly kick your feet out to the sides, then take your hands off and throw them out to the sides. Now nothings touching your bike. Then put your hands back on then feet, now land it. Turndown This trick is where you turn your bars 180 degrees and your bike is straight up vertical. You should also be standing almost upright as you would on the ground with your back somewhat bent. Master x-ups and you should get this trick with a bit of time and practice. This ones hard to explain. Decade This is similar to a tailwhip except your body goes around in a 360 degree turn with your handlebars instead of the back of your bike. This means you will have to get up off your seat and swing yourself around the front of your bike pressed against your handlebars and spin with them. Can-Can Once you hit the jump take the foot you do one footers with and kick it over your toptube of your frame onto the other side of your bike. As you get better you will be able to stretch this further. Just remember to bring your foot back. |
