This was in the Southern Illinoisan Newspaper; ATTORNEY FOUND DEAD IN CAMBRIA BY JOHN HOMAN THE SOUTHERN [Mon Mar 18 2002] CAMBRIA -- An assistant state's attorney for Alexander County was found dead inside his apartment at about 2:30 p.m. Monday by Williamson County authorities. Sheriff Tom Cundiff said Monday night that Steve Jett, 39, of 100 Meaghan Lane in Cambria, was pronounced dead at the scene by Williamson County Coroner Monte Blue. One report indicated that Jett was discovered curled up on his side and that he died from gunshot wounds. Cundiff would not confirm that report, explaining that more detailed information on Jett's death would be made available following an autopsy this afternoon. "The sheriff's department, along with the Illinois State Police, Cambria police, Major Case Squad and coroner's office are continuing to investigate this case," Cundiff said. Steve was been a member of the SIU Martial Arts Club for about 3 years. He was the Illinois States Assistant Attorney for Alexander County IL. He was also a friend of mine and a good student. Everyone at the club loved him cause he was such a nice guy. I'm not just saying that, he really was a great guy than just made ya smile. I will truly miss him. I just spoke with him on the phone a few weeks before he was killed. Please say a prayer for him and his family. |
