Here is how to make a (British pounds Stirling) £20 pell.  You can get most everything from B&Q, that fine English DIY store.

The finished product (32832 bytes) detail of the reinforcing (546498 bytes) detail of the "feet" and counter-weight (396694 bytes)

2 x LP37 Fence posts (2.1x.075x.075m) - £5.98
4 x 386005AM shelf brackets (200x150mm) - £0.58
5056216889 packet of nails (75x3.75mm) - £2.49
15000231 packaging tape (50mmx100m) - £2.99
old blanket - free
roll of high density foam - approx £3-5
2 x black-sacks - £0.29

1/ Take a look at the first picture, this is what you are aiming for.

2/ Take one of the fence posts, and saw off two small stands of "feet" for the higher crossbar, I made mine the same dimensions as the fence post.

3/ Then taking the (now reduced) fence post, saw this in half.

4/ Nail the two small stands onto one of the sawn-in-half bits of fence post.   Lets call this leg 1.

5/ Nail leg 1 to the bottom of the whole fence post, then perpendicular (making the cross shape) nail the second leg.

6/ Then nail the brackets into the corners, thus reinforcing the upright post.

7/ Wrap old blanket around the post, measuring from below your knees to the top of the post, made need some duct tape to hold in place.  Then tape the close-cell foam around as well.

8/ To waterproof, put one of the black-sacks around the lower part, with the second actually going over the top and down the fence post so it overlaps the second.

9/ Tape for all you are worth, I suggest starting at the bottom and working up in one continuous winding action.  Add some lines for knees - hips - eyes, and you are all set to practice some smacking!
