SLW 2002 Tournament army (2000 points) - For the SLW tournament (1/0/0) Brief: This is the 2002 South London Warlord Warhammer Fantasy Battles tournament. Fixed scenarios for each round. This reduces the random factor from last time, and as long as nothing favours a certain type of army, it should make things more even. I opted for a more "fun" army, especially since Paul, the other HE player, was using something pretty similar to what i normally use. Yes it's got a big nasty dragon, and its all cavarly, so should be intresting to see the preformance. Here's hoping there arent too many cannons out there... Round 1: Max point win vs Steve's Bretonnian's; top of the table!Steve's Bretonnian army: level 4 mage I had more units than him, and won the roll to choose so made him deploy first, letting me see just where the nasty stuff was going. I started to deploy like a normal spread accross the board, but when his characters were down dumped the Lord, Dragon Princes, silver helms and 2 chariots on the right flank. As this was probably the best chance for resolving the enivetable weasling (we each mostly charge 16") as Grail Knights are immune to psych and cant flee. I won first turn, so moved the cav up to a point to threaten if he moved too fast, but didnt want to close right away as i wanted time for the Lord&Dragon to get into place (ie behind his units). So a couple of turns was spent shifting troops slightly on each side, but for my Lord who dropped inbetween two wedges and near the squires. A good breathing later and there were fewer but they passed their panic test. I forgot the terror test in his turn, and his movement consisted of getting close to charge range also. One of his mages blew herself up and killed a knight too, and his archmage did squat. My turn and more backing up to get those rear charges while pushing the DPs and supporting chariot and SH into a near charge position. His next turn i made him do the Terror test for the wedge with his archmage, and it failed fleeing into the centre of the board. This obviously changed each of our plans, he pushed the grail knights 16" forwards to cover them (and give a chance to rally), and stop all the stuff on the right flank from getting there, but making themselves a target, while positioning another wedge to cover the fleeing one. His last wedge was still playing march-blocking with my eagle. This was the turn where it was all going to happen, so i charge a chariot into the fleeing wedge, who had to flee back to their table edge, and DPs and chariot into the Grail Knights. I position two SH units to cover the chariot in case he decides to charge it (which will flee leaving the SH countercharge to work). Still nothing on the left. The chariot does 6 impact hits, but only 2 unsaved wounds, my commander does another, but he gets two wounds on the chariot, so a little under-average on my part, but he still loses by one, and he fails and gets caught, leaving these two units to threathen the fleeing wedge if it should rally. His turn again, and the fleeing wedge doesnt rally, goes off the end of the table. He checks the left flank which has the remains of the squires and a wedge covered by an eagle and one SH unit, but nothing is going to happen there quickly, and the other wedge now has 2 SH units, the DPs and 2-3 chariots and the lord eyeing him up. At this point he conceeds, which is fair enough but i always like playing to the bitter end. Huzzah big win for me! Round 2: Mac's Chaos WarriorsAwaiting play...
