YMCA Chicago Scuba Convention

THE MIDWEST WORKING EQUIPMENT GROUP was invited to help the YMCA
celebrate the 40th Anniversary of its SCUBA certification program,
which is the oldest SCUBA certifying agency in the country. The convention was held
at the Northbrook Hilton in Northbrook, Illinois, on November 12-14, 1999.
Greg Platt's Midwest crew and Bob Rusnak and Jim Boyd from the Northeast Diving Equipment Group
set up display tables for the Historical Diving Society - U.S.A. at the hotel on Friday and Saturday.

GREG PLATT, Tom Squiccerini and Bob Rusnak posed (left to right) with Bob's MkV.
We gave a few of the YMCA scuba instructors (below left) a chance to see what the MkV was like.
Bob was prowlilng around the Saturday evening costume banquet with his WWII rebreather (below right)
when he encountered King Neptune, himself. Actually, that's Gary Holsten from FantaSea
in Milltown, N.J., who supplies the diving tank for Beneath The Sea,
and whose shop is a 100% YMCA certifying agency.

Our HDS / Working Equipment Groups crew assembled at the HDS display table in the hotel.
Inspired by the costume party, they posed again (below, l to r) with Greg Platt in a Jack Browne
mask, Bob Rusnak in the rebreather, Tom Squiccerinni in his 1960s double-snorkel pool mask,
Jerry Windmere in an Aquadyne mask and, standing, Chris Low in another Jack Browne.

"THE WAY TO THE HDS's HEART..."
Greg Platt tallies up the HDS souvenir and book sales.
