Phoenix is pretty nice, the skatepark here is pretty interesting. It seems to be purely street oriented, and there are two major sets of ledges on each side of the park. The ledges are lined with metal (think of Sea-Tac/Tyee w/out the choppiness). Bikes and blades are legally banned and the locals are pretty vicious about it (a biker was just beaten up the other day). There are bowls with no coping (to keep people moving) and a pretty cool vert-pyramid. Some of the locals are pretty cool; one let me roll around on his board for a while (left mine at home). It's always packed, even during the school day. the weather's been about 100, but it feels like around 80 (no humidity). There was a competition last saturday, there were about 30 people sponsored by Vans, DC, skate shops from around Arizona, DNA, and some other companies. I was amazed at the crowd that showed up to watch, people packed the area around the entire park.

Directions: Once you get into the Phoenix/Glendale area, find 67th and Encanto. It's easy, the whole city is a giant grid, so it's not hard at all to find 67th. Encanto is to the north of the freeway. If you get lost, ask for Desert West Park.
